<image:caption>• Head / pelvis relationships. This one is common in craniosacral therapy. “Hey, why are you holding my tailbone when I came in for a headache or jaw pain?!” (Admittedly my clients tend to be very trusting; no one has ever asked me this! But here’s why…) First: there is a dynamic membrane system which surrounds your brain and spinal cord. Second: The bones in your head and pelvis all ‘breathe’ in rhythmic microscopic movements as a complete, connected craniosacral system. If the bones are stuck in a compressed position at one end of this system, it affects the whole. When we create more ease of motion for the membranes, bones and fluids in the bottom of your spine, that supports freedom in your head and around your brain... and the whole body can respond as well. Ahhhh.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About</image:title>
<image:caption>Kia ora. My name is Redwood. I provide biodynamic craniosacral therapy to help people with a wide range of health conditions. I also teach meditation. I’m passionate about supporting my clients and students to connect with their inner resources of healing and wisdom, so that body and mind can come into a nourishing balance. I live in Golden Bay, Aotearoa New Zealand, where I can also be found exploring the natural world, growing organic food, and writing and sharing poems. Why is this site called Redwood Health? I grew up in California, and redwood trees are one of my inspirations in life. They also offer some powerful lessons about health. Coast redwood trees are the tallest trees alive on earth. But they don’t get that way alone. An entire redwood forest is connected underground by roots and fungi. The trees share water and nutrients with each other so that they can all thrive together. Like the trees, as human beings, we each possess incredible life force within us – and our health shines when we are in connection with each other. This understanding guides my work.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Tobias Keene, D.D.S. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. When not striving to keep his patients happy and healthy, he’s enjoys hiking with his family in Rock Creek Park.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Biodynamic craniosacral therapy - How it works</image:title>
<image:caption>a.k.a “How is it that I feel so much better in my body afterward, when it seems you were just sitting there gently holding me?!” Through the stresses of life, we may accumulate strain, trauma and densification of tissue in our bodies, including our muscles, fascia, organs and bones. We may also experience changes in our nervous system’s habitual responses to the world, as high-stress environments keep us distracted or over-alert. Underneath those symptoms, however, every cell in our body remembers what health feels like. Biodynamic craniosacral touch reorients the body toward the original blueprint of health that has animated each of us since before we were born. With finely honed perceptual skills, the therapist dialogues carefully with the client’s biorhythms to resource the body’s self-healing mechanisms. Rather than manipulating the tissues, this therapy taps into the body’s own cellular intelligence to create deep change. During a treatment and in the days afterward, stuck body patterns tend to loosen. Muscle tensions often release; bones adjust their relationships to each other; and the nervous system can slip into states of fluidity, repair and rejuvenation. The therapist provides gentle, respectful touch to facilitate this. One of my favourite comments that I often receive from clients is that they feel profoundly held and supported during a session. If this all sounds like magic… well, once you try it, you may still think it’s magic! I continue to sit in humble awe of the transformations that I have witnessed through this work. What to expect in a session The treatment takes place fully clothed, on a massage table, in a space designed for comfort and relaxation. It is common for people to feel sensations of energy and fluid moving through the body, while some people simply go into a state of deep rest. The treatment often continues to work over the course of the day or days after a session.</image:caption>

<image:title>Meditation - “What we think, we become.” – The Buddha</image:title>
<image:caption>Settling the nervous system. Coming home to the body, here and now. Finding that space between the loops of thoughts. (And the freedom that comes from remembering that you are not your thoughts!) Reconnecting to the heart, and our natural wisdom. These are some of the reasons I practice and teach meditation. And it’s not just a solitary thing. Supportive guidance and community can make a big difference in nurturing a personal meditation practice.</image:caption>
